Meet Our Founder

Akaoma Onyemelukwe
She is a global development leader, with extensive experience in social development and humanitarian sectors for over 20 years. She has extensive expertise in policy and strategy development, reforms in public health, gender, education and governance, systems strengthening applying wide range systems thinking, research. She has accelerated impact in global development through management of large and complex programs in Health (Disease focused, Health systems strengthening and Universal Health Coverage), Humanitarian, Education, Governance and Media. Akaoma has worked extensively in Nigeria and across Africa.

What we do

Health Programmes

HEARD Africa is a brain trust and implementer in the health space and its intersection with Gender. We programme in adolescents’ & youth health, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn Child Health (RMNCH), Nutrition including IYCF,Family Planning,PHC Health systems strengthening, HIV Intervention.

Education

Education is a key. In education sector, we focus on early childhood education, primary education, adolescent education and skills, girls’ education, inclusive education, education in emergencies and strengthening education system.

Agriculture

HEARD Africa focuses on improving farmers access to and use of agricultural knowledge, technologies, marketing systems and infrastructure, for the purpose of contributing to higher productivity, profitability and farm incomes. We promote improvement of regulatory and policy environment.

Gender

In our gender work, we focus on programmes that unlock progress on gender inequality, upholding women’s human rights and ensure that every woman and girl lives up to her full potential. We work on gender-based violence, women leadership, economic empowerment and women’s right. We bring our depth of experience of evidence facilitation and delivering programmes.

Policy & Advocacy

Heard Africa does extensive work in policy reforms and leading advocacy in all the sector related to programmes especially issues that has bearing on women leadership and girls. We lend our expertise working with various international organizations, NGOs and CBO including government institutions across Africa.

Research

HEARD Africa is a think tank and enabler of research across a range of issues affecting development and humanitarian sector. We bring expertise for the generation, analysis and use of new evidence and knowledge for improving programming. Research cut across all our programmes.
